How Does Coolsculpting ® Work?

The idea for this state-of-the-art technology began years ago when Harvard University scientists noticed that some children who ate Popsicles® developed dimples in their cheeks. These scientists determined that the Popsicles were freezing and removing small pockets of fat cells in the children’s cheeks. The insight was that cold can target and destroy fat cells without damaging skin and surrounding tissues.

In a CoolSculpting procedure, precisely controlled cooling is safely delivered to targeted areas of stubborn fat beneath the skin. Fat cells are frozen (crystallized), and then they die. Over time, the body naturally processes and eliminates the destroyed fat cells, leaving the patient with a more sculpted physique.

The beauty of this treatment is that once the fat cells are destroyed, they cannot grow back. Fat loss results with Bellevue CoolSculpting are long-lasting.

How Many Coolsculpting Treatments Will I Need For Fat Loss?

You will need two or more treatment sessions to achieve desired results with the CoolSculpting technology. The number of sessions will depend on:

  • Areas to be treated
  • Number of areas treated in a single session
  • Your personal cosmetic goals

Dr. Egrari and his providers will tailor an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve a more sculpted, trim body contour. A typical CoolSculpting in Seattle procedure takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes to perform. Some patients have more than one treatment in a single session.

How Does A Coolsculpting Treatment Feel?

During the first few minutes of the procedure as the cooling is initiated, you will feel the sensation of intense cold.

This sensation dissipates quickly. Many people read, work on laptops, watch movies, or take a nap during treatment.

With some CoolSculpting applicators, you may experience a mild pulling sensation as the applicator applies suction to a targeted area. The area being treated typically gets numb within five or ten minutes into the procedure. You may experience some tingling as the targeted area is massaged 2 or 3 minutes after treatment.

Procedure Description

CoolSculpting uses Cryolipolysis™ technology to safely and effectively reduce the number of fat cells in the target zone. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment that requires no downtime and does not involve surgery, anesthesia, or incisions. Fat is safely chilled to a point where the cells are damaged without harming surrounding skin or tissue. During the weeks following the procedure, the body will naturally eliminate the damaged fat cells through it's own metabolic processes, reducing the thickness of the fat layer in the treated area. CoolSculpting can effectively remove 20% to 30% of fat in the treated area.
