Breast Reshaping after Massive Weight Loss
in Bellevue and Seattle

Breast Reshaping after Massive Weight Loss Bellevue | Breast Reshaping after Massive Weight Loss SeattleWho is a candidate for breast reshaping?

  • If you have lost a tremendous amount of weight.
  • If your breasts have flattened and have become ptotic (droopy).
  • If you have gathered significant skin as a result of weight loss.
  • If you have lost the shape and youthful size of your areola.
  • If male breasts have become feminized by droopiness and excess skin.

    Intended results of breast reshaping

    • Create a youthful and natural breast shape.
    • Place the areola and nipple in a proper position above the fold of the breast.
    • Remove the redundant skin of the breast.
    • Reduce the size of the areola.
    • Improve the upper pole fullness.
    • Create a more masculine breast in men.

    Description of breast reshaping procedure

    • The approach to patients who have lost weight is different in breast reshaping. Most commonly the reshaping requires a standard lift that removes the significant excess of skin, places the areola in the proper position, and attempts at improving the upper pole fullness.
    • In cases of significant redundancy and droopiness, implants are not used. They can be used as a secondary procedure 3-6 months after the lift. The purpose of implants is to give additional upper pole fullness.
    • The incisions are around the areola, a line down to the fold and under the fold — anchor type incision.
    • The procedure is an outpatient operation.
    • Sutures are all dissolvable and skin is covered with tape.
    • Drains are often used that are removed within 24 hours.
    • Men often times will need removal of the excess skin and replacement of the nipple in the proper position using free nipple graft. See Male Breast Reduction.

Recuperation and healing after breast reshaping

    • Most patients need 7-10 days to recover.
    • At 10 days to 2 weeks, most patients go back to work.
    • Initial discomfort is well controlled with oral analgesics.
    • Exercise can be resumed at 4-6 weeks.
    • Final shape and result is often seen at 2-3 months.

Other options and information on breast reshaping after weight loss

    • Additional procedures that may enhance the results are Lateral Thoracoplasty (chest wall recontouring), Brachioplasty (arm lift), and occasionally use of implants either at the same time or more commonly at about 3-6 months.
    • Innovative internal maneuvers are used to create a natural and long lasting lift. Dr. Egrari will discuss these with you at your consultation.
    • In massive weight loss patients, breasts, arms and chest wall or back are often addressed as a combination procedure done at the same time.
