Lip Augmentation in Bellevue and Seattle
Lips are one of the most expressive and sensual parts of the face. With aging, lips lose some or all of their robust appearance. The sides of the mouth start drooping and vertical wrinkles set in. Occasionally, genetically, individuals also might have thin lips.
The purpose of lip augmentation is to bring about natural, sensual and proportional enhancement to the area of the mouth. This should be done least invasively with the most long lasting material.
Dr. Egrari takes a scientific and artistic approach in recommending a sound method of lip augmentation. Through large experience with lip augmentation, he has narrowed his choices and strives to only bring the most up-to-date and effective means in this very dynamic and evolving field.
Fillers
Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler which is made of non-animal-based Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body so it naturally dissipates into the body with time. All living organisms have Hyaluronic Acid in their bodies. In humans this is the substance that creates volume in ones face, giving it a healthy, young appearance. It is in a clear crystal gel. The fact that it is non-animal based virtually removes the risk of animal based disease transmission or allergic reaction. There is no pre-testing required. This is currently Dr. Egrari's method of choice for non-invasive lip augmentation.
Perlane is an injection that can get rid of wrinkles and enhances areas of your face immediately — including lips, superficial lines around the mouth, forehead lines, and smile lines. Perlane is a non-animal Hyaluronic Acid, manufactured by a unique method in the Q-Med Laboratories in Sweden. Perlane is a slightly longer lasting derivative of its sister product, Restylane.
Juvéderm is a smooth consistency gel made also of Hyaluronic Acid — a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Juvéderm injectable gel is eased under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds — the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Juvéderm has many of the properties of Restylane and Perlane and comes in two different forms, Ultra and Ultra plus.
The three Hyaluronic Acid fillers, Restylane, Perlane, and Juvéderm, are the state of the art for lip enhancement. They are done as an office procedure. It takes 15 minutes to 20 minutes to inject the lips. Dr. Egrari has a unique style of injection which includes icing, anesthetizing the lips by a block and direct technique and injection of the product. There is often some swelling in the first 24 hours. Occasionally patients can bruise. There is no downtime except we recommend that you refrain from significant exertion and exercise in the first 24 hours. The lips achieve their best shape at 2 weeks and can last up to a year. Most people need touch ups at 6-month intervals.
All patients are give a Arnica booster pack to reduce their bruising.
Facial Implants
Alloderm is an acellular skin that is an effective mode of lip augmentation. It has a wide popularity amongst most plastic surgeons. The skin serves as scaffolding, which is then populated by one’s own cells producing long lasting enhancement.
A small outpatient operation is required that requires local anesthesia with an occasional sedation. Most patients recuperate during the weekend. The result of Alloderm implantation is dramatic and natural, and it remains an effective mode of surgical lip enhancement.
Tissue
Fat Transfer
This remains a viable and beautifully natural method of enhancement of lips. The results are long lasting (3 years). Occasional touch ups are needed for the augmentation.
A small outpatient operation is required that is done under local anesthesia with sedation. Most patients need 7-10 days to recuperate from the initial swelling and bruising.

Additional information about lip enhancement
- Lip enhancement is a dramatic embellishment of the aging face. In general excessive enhancements are not natural and tend to give the “duck lip” look. Dr. Egrari will guide you as to the best option that would give the best result in a long lasting form.
- In general permanent products should not be injected into the lips. Lips are dynamic and change with time. Placing permanent products into the lips can cause future deformities.
