Lip Augmentation
Lips
are one of the most expressive and sensual parts of the
face. With aging, lips lose some or all of their robust
appearance. The sides of the mouth start drooping and
vertical wrinkles set in. Occasionally, genetically, individuals
also might have thin lips.
Purpose of lip augmentation is to bring about natural,
sensual and proportional enhancement to the area of the
mouth. This should be done least invasively with the most
long lasting material.
Dr. Egrari takes a scientific and artistic approach
in recommending a sound method of lip augmentation. Through
large experience with lip augmentation, he has narrowed
his choices and strives to only bring the most up-to-date
and effective means in this very dynamic and evolving
field.
Fillers
Radiesse
RADIESSE
This is one of the most recent and "hottest"
methods of lip augmentation. It creates natural and
long lasting results (up to one year). It is currently not
approved by the FDA for lip augmentation, however is
widely used as off label [click for "definition
of off labels"] in the United States and abroad.
It involves a small office procedure that requires local
anesthesia. It has minimal down time.

Collagen
This is a classic and quick technique that can give
spectacular results, and can last up to 3-4 months.

Restylane

Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler
which is made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. It
is in a clear crystal gel. The fact that it is non animal
based virtually removes the risk of animal based disease
transmission or allergic reaction. There is no pre-testing
required. This is currently Dr. Egrari's method of choice for non-invasive lip augmentation.

Hylaform
Hylaform
is another hyaluronic acid based dermal filler that
has recently been approved by the FDA for treatment
of facial wrinkles. A major distinction is that it comes
from avian (bird) origin, and individuals who have allergies
to avian products should not use this filler. It is
believed that it last up to six months. It can be combined
with bovine and non bovine type injections to address
many parts of an aging skin. The injection is similar
to others and it also virtually has no down time.

Implants
Alloderm

Alloderm is an acellular skin that is one of the gold
standards of lip augmentation. It has a wide popularity
amongst most plastic surgeons. The skin serves as scaffolding,
which is then populated by ones own cells producing
long lasting enhancement (5-7 years or longer).
A small outpatient operation is required that requires
local anesthesia with an occasional sedation. Most patients
recuperate during the weekend. The result of Alloderm
implantation is dramatic and natural, and it remains
as one of Dr. Egrari's favorite surgical lip enhancement procedures.
Tissue
Fat Transfer
This remains a viable and beautifully natural method
of enhancement of lips. Fat is most suitable for older
individuals (>50 years of age). The results are long
lasting (3 years). Occational touch ups are needed for the augmentation.
A small outpatient operation is required that is done
under local anesthesia with sedation. Most patients
need 3-5 days to recuperate from the initial swelling
and bruising.

fat transfer.
Adjunctive procedures

and are commonly done are: Facelift,
Laser skin rejuvenation, and Permanent makeup. Beautiful lips need beautiful teeth. Please visit these outstanding cosmetic dentists who we refer patients to.
